Hi everyone!! I am so excited to share this with you today! Today officially marks my second month blogging, so to celebrate I’m going to be discussing my traffic, my social media growth, how much money I earned, and my plans for the coming months. These results are current as of January 18, 2019.

I made some money!
You read that right… this girl made her first ever affiliate sale! It was 3 USD and I won’t see that money until February but the takeaway here is I MADE MONEY IN MY SECOND MONTH BLOGGING.
I’m an affiliate of one of my favorite blogging-related courses, Ell Duclos’s Pinterest Strategies eCourse, and someone enrolled in it after finding my blog! I’ve had clicks on some of my other affiliate links but so far no extra sales, but I’m still happy to have the clicks.
Pageviews & Traffic
In the last 30 days, I received 5,353 views. One of my Pinterest pins received quite a bit of traction, and was the result of all this traffic. To put it in perspective, at the end of December, there was a 3-day period where I got a combined 2,081 views, and that pin is still circulating a little bit but has slowed down considerably.
If it weren’t for that pin, my traffic would be MUCH smaller now! So as a result, I’m having a little trouble setting realistic monthly goals. Right now, I’m aiming for 100-200 views per day. If you want to read that post, it’s right here!
I had difficulty posting regularly in December because of the holidays, but in January I’m pleased to say I’ve been ON IT. I created a schedule for my blog posts. My plan is to post every Monday and Thursday, with bonus posts on some Saturdays if I have something else to say.

I’m overall pretty happy with my growth this month even though it’s not what it could be. At the same time, I want to slow down just slightly because I feel like I’ve gotten so many followers on social media that I can’t connect with everyone and I can’t keep everyone straight in my head. Like I’ll follow someone on Instagram but not Twitter, and I might not know their blog handle, so I want to make sure I’m actually making connections with other people and not just focusing on the numbers.
What I Did on Social Media
I haven’t promoted my Facebook page as much this month as I did last month, and it shows… especially in comparison to my other followers. However, I did manage to reach my (admittedly tiny) January goal. I still mostly just use Facebook to promote my blog in blogging groups.
I also boosted one of my posts with the free $15 credit Facebook gives you when you have a “business” page. I didn’t have any strategy about it; I was sick of Facebook harassing me to use their credit so I just used it. It allowed me to run an ad for about 24 hours and I DID get about 125 views on my blog from Facebook. I probably could have done a little better if I had only marketed the post to the age group 25-55 instead of 18-65 but who knows?
I downloaded an app that lets you see who unfollowed you on instagram, so if someone follows me just to unfollow later, I can unfollow them too. Since I got that app, I feel a lot better about Instagram and I don’t feel like I’m a pawn in someone’s ploy to get more followers, if that makes sense. If you’re interested, it’s just called “Followers.” I also tend to not follow accounts that have way more followers than people they’re following unless I truly love their content and/or feed!
With Twitter, I try to follow other likeminded bloggers and follow back everyone who follows me that is also a blogger. I also tend to follow back writers in general. I try to just… tweet relatable stuff. Twitter is the most personal of all the social networks and people don’t usually feel like they have to hold back on Twitter. Also, I tend to remember bloggers better if I’ve interacted with them on Twitter, so the more I use the platform the more I can connect with people.
My Pinterest strategy hasn’t really changed much. I am still using a combination of Tailwind scheduling and manual pinning. However, in February I do plan to implement some sort of tracking schedule to figure out which pins are going to which group boards and which ones I promote in Facebook groups. Remember when I said I had a pin gain a lot of traction? I have no idea WHY that pin performed so well. I mean, I know it has to do with the fact that it was relevant content for the season, but I don’t know where it got picked up. So if I can figure out a way to track my Pinterest pins, I can hopefully pick up on a pattern that I can replicate.
I also recently joined all 5 free Tailwind boards. I don’t know what that’s going to do for my traffic, but we’ll see. On top of that, I started my own Tailwind Tribe because why not? If you’re interested, you can help me grow that right here.
Goals for my Third Month Blogging
Last month, I put together a couple short-term goals for my blog to reach during my second month blogging. They were:
- Reach 100k monthly viewers on Pinterest!
- Reach 100 followers on Instagram!
- Make my first affiliate sale!
And I’m pleased to announce I reached all of those goals! If I’m being 100% honest, I didn’t know what to even say so I sort of just wrote some random goals down that seemed reasonable. My short-term goals for my third month are a bit more thought out.
- Make at least $10 in affiliate sales!
- Reach 500 followers on instagram!
- Create a system to track my Pinterest pins!
- Focus more on my email newsletter — I want to give my newsletter subscribers bonus content but I don’t know what to send. If you have any ideas, please let me know!
- Start my media kit — I want to try to create my own to save money and so that I can have something that is uniquely me, so I want to start creating the template this month.
I created a schedule for when things are billed so I can try to make sure the annual and quarterly expenses are not coming out all at once. The two big things I am looking to purchase this quarter are the annual Tailwind plan so that I can get unlimited monthly pins pins, and a stock photography membership. Based on my planning, I need to purchase one in February and the other in March, which is a little soon for my liking but in the long run it makes more sense to schedule everything that way.
I also bought this book. SEO is something I’m incredibly interested in and I’m excited to learn more about it. I’ve thought about what sort of services I’d want to offer if I ever “make it as a big blogger” and SEO services are something I’ve considered, if I can get a handle on it. It’s also a good ~real world~ skill to have.
